Kale Chane are also known as black chickpeas.

Cooking kala chana
  • Soaking: Soak kala chana for at least 8 hours or overnight to soften them and reduce cooking time.
  • Cooking methods:
    • Pressure cooker: Add soaked chana with 2 cups of water per cup of chana, and cook for 4-5 whistles, then reduce the heat and simmer for about 10 minutes. Some recipes suggest 8-9 whistles on medium heat.
    • Stovetop: Boil in a pot with ample water for 45-60 minutes until soft.
    • Instant Pot: Cook on high pressure for 25-30 minutes.
